                        The MayaVi TODO List
                        --------------------

This is a rough TODO list for MayaVi.

MayaVi-2.0
^^^^^^^^^^

    * Use Pmw to improve the GUI.

    * import mechanism - fix it by moving files around. Currently
      there are dirty hacks in some of the __init__.py files.

    * Clean up pipeline browser.

    * Incorporate Charl Botha's wxVTKPipeline code.

    * Clean up API:

       - Refactor, redesign, uniform naming, nicer code style.

       - Remove "debug" functions.

       - Split GUI from functionality, allow for keyword args to
         constructor, cleaner interfaces, improved scriptability.

       - Improved/Changed file format (use a dictionary?).

       - Allow for other toolkits to be used for the GUI.

       - Use the traits package if it will help.

    * Improved default handling.

    * Make it possible to use LOD actors.

    * Support for multiple data outputs per source/reader.

Future releases
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

    * Handle field data attributes.

    * Create a simple custom module creator and create more filters
      like objects so user can build custom visualizations.

    * Add more gui controls for clamped variables in the
      vtkMethodParser.

    * Advanced visualization pipeline editor for custom modules and
      filters.

    * Readers for image/data files of various types. BMP, BYU, DEM,
      JPEG, OBJ, PLY, PNG, PNM, Particle, SLC, STL, TIFF, Volume,
      Volume16, UGFacet, GESigna, DICOMImage.

    * Generalize the streamlines a bit and using PlaneSource,
      LineSource, SphereSource and DiskSource.

    * Add support to generate animation sequences for movies etc.

    * Support for time dependent data or data files.

Todo or not todo?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

    * More export options? vtkPolyDataWriter, CGM?

    * Off screen rendering option?

    * Keyboard motion for camera?

    * Find values along a line (arbitrary probe?) or picking?

    * Arguments can be passed on the command line for different
      modules? Might need to use Optik for this.
